No one knows the name of my great grandfather, I have ordered marraige certificate for my grandparents which has William Thomas and I have ordered birth certificate for my grandfather which has James Thomas. I know the name of my great grandmother so have tried to search for marraiges between either of those 2 names but as I have no idea when they were born its like a neede in a haystack. Any ideas anyone? Many thanks |

Roughly when are you talking about? Will they be on the 1901 census? |

thanks for the replies. My grandfather was born in 1912 so I am guessing my great grandparents must have been born sometime between 1872 and 1891. I know my grandfather was born in East London so I am presuming my great grandparents were born in the same area, so I have done a search on marraiges between Florence Savill (great grandmother) and either William Thomas Chapman or James Thomas Chapman from 1893 - 1912 and come up with zero. I don't really have any ideas what to try next.. . |

Sorry apparently I left the surname out of my original posting! Chapman is our surname, so on my grandfathers birth cert (born 1912) it says father as James Thomas Chapman and on my grandfathers marriage cert it says father as William Thomas Chapman. Obvously one of them is wrong so am searching under both names for marraiges to florence Savill but have found nothing and as I have no further information I am a bit stumped as to where I can start looking... |

What was your grandfathers full name and when in 1912 was he born ? I have looked on 1912 births and can't find a Chapman with mothers maiden name Savill --the nearest I can find is mmn Gavell---this was a Edward Chapman born Bethnel Green !! |

My Grandfather was James Thomas Chapman born 19.12.1912 - on the BMD he is registered in Q1 1913 - Chapman, James T. Mothers maiden name definately Savill which birth cert confirms, Florence Savill. |

I can't find the marriage between Florence Savill and ? Chapman--the only thing I could think of was that Florence had been married before, and married ? Chapman in a differant surname--but I can't find anything that seems right.-- does it mention another name for Florence--- Florence ? Savill. |

Hi Barbara No, only thing I have to go on is my Grandfathers birth cert and that just says under Name, surname, and maiden name of mother: Florence Chapman, formerly Savill. I know she married again after my great grandfather died (died approx 1918) but have that is literally all the information I have. Thank you so much for trying to help. I am at a complete loss now, do you know of anything else I could search under to try and get more info - on the birth cert it has her residence as 64 Jersey Road, Custom House but as this was in 1912 I am guessing info will be locked still? Thanks again for your help |
