Well the only other kid on the 1871 is sister Esther aged 15 - so possibly .......... I wonder if Lucy could be a second wife - just out of interest, he was quite a mature bride groom. Sorry, I have to shoot off now, got a friend arriving in half an hour and house a tip. Im sure someone will jump in - good luck! Ill check back later.

Well, he isnt leaping out is he? Unfortunately there are possible matches but I dont know the area well enough to decide if someone has put a vague area in rather than the village he was born. Assuming he didnt join the army or something - I think this bloke is unlikely to have moved far from mum an dads village. If I had more time, I would be tempted to just enter the village in the search and go through every page looking for him? Have you looked anywhere round where Lucy came from? Anyone having any luck???

I didnt look at the images - Is Easter Pickles really Easter or Esther (like his mum)? In the 1891 who is the child Elizabeth?? I didnt look at image, is it a grandchild? Whose?

So what are the full details on the 1881 and 1901 for him? Who was he with, where were they living, what job did he do? Is this him 1871? Parents are quite elderly arent they! Name: Joseph Pickles Age: 11 Estimated birth year: abt 1860 Relation: Son Father's name: Charles Mother's name: Esther Gender: Male Where born: Grewelthorpe, Yorkshire, England 1881: For any one helping out! Joseph Pickles Age: 20 Estimated birth year: abt 1861 Relation: Son Father's name: Charles Mother's name: Esther Gender: Male Where born: Grewelthorpe, Yorkshire, England Civil parish: Grewelthorpe County/Island: Yorkshire Country: England Education: Employment status: View image Occupation: Ag Labourer Registration district: Ripon Sub-registration district: Kirkby Malzeard ED, institution, or vessel: 2 Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Charles Pickles 77 Elizabeth Pickles 9 Esther Pickles 69 Joseph Pickles 20 1901: Married to Lucy Joseph Pickles Age: 40 Estimated birth year: abt 1861 Relation: Head Spouse's name: Lucy Gender: Male Where born: Grewelthorpe, Yorkshire, England Civil parish: Grewelthorpe Ecclesiastical parish: Grewelthorpe St James Town: Grewelthorpe County/Island: Yorkshire Country: England Street address: Registration district: Ripon Sub-registration district: Kirkby Malzeard Amelia Annie Pickles 3 months Charles Pickles 1 Easter Elizth Pickles 4 Joseph Pickles 40 Lucy Pickles 28 Mary Jane Pickles 3 We can probably assume mum and dad died between 1891-1901 or have you found them? If he was on his own he could be with relatives/lodging and someone put down a wrong place/dob

It seams quite a lot of my ancesters go missing in 1891 - that's from different family branches & different areas- only to turn up again in 1901. Has anyone any ideas for the reason/or happened to anyone else. It's a bit of a mystery to me-so would be grateful for any advice-Linda

Oh dear, could be a number of reasons, the particular pages have disappeared or are unreadable, the people have had their names mistranscribed, dont forget this is just one night in a decade - they may all be staying with friends and the friend doesnt add them to the census - or alternatively they get added twice - which Ive had. Perhaps you could give an example - with full details from 1871/1901 of a missing ancestor and people could try to find them for you.
