Hi Willow, She lived in Aspley Guise during the 1841 and 1851 census. If you go to the records office I would be very grateful if you could look it up for me. I will reimburse you for any photo cost etc. Kathlyn

The main thing you could include as a check is her estimated age at the time of her death, as it doesn't appear in the death indexes. You could also put that she was the wife/widow of ...., and her husband's occupation if it was consistent over the 1841 and 1851 censuses, although this might not be what was put on the eventual certificate, so it's a bit of an iffy thing to use. The other thing is that I would use the individual relevant register offices rather than the GRO as they seem to have less stringent rules about using checking points. If they don't find the correct entry, they should return your cheque and might even give you the reasons why they didn't send you the certificate. I've even had some registrars sending my request on to neighbouring register offices before now - they are usually extremely helpful. :-)

She was born abt 1797, and is in both the 1841 and 1851 census. So, I am assuming she died between 1851 and 1861. I have found four that 'could' be her Ann Whitbread...Woburn...1852 JFM Ann Whitbread...Bedford...1852 JAS Ann Whitbread...Ampthill...1860 JFM Ann Whitbread...Luton....1861 JFM. I favour the Woburn one as she lived in a village not too far from there. Kathlyn

Is there no way to eliminate some? Was this after 1901? Do you want to tell us her name? Gwyn

Was her spouse still alive?, you may be able to put that as a reference check. Jackie
