Member Since: October 2005 Posts: 3 Send Message	I have searched Hugh Wallis from end to end to try and find Michael Welch (1801) and his father William. They were both Tallow Chandlers, I cannot find his mother Ann GIFFIN which is an unusual name. Michael's marriage cert. says he came from St Lukes Parish. Does anyone know of any trade directories etc that list Tallow Chandlers or which part of London the trade was practiced in as I imagine it was smelly and confined to one area. This is becoming an obsession......... Steve.

	Steven You say you have searched Hugh Wallis - have you also searched the IGI? Hugh Wallis has not been updated for a number of years, whilst the IGI is added to almost daily. As for Tallow Chandlers - well, that was just someone who sold candles and I should imagine there was one in every street in London at that time. Nobody bothered about smells in those days. OC
