there is some Sonny's on Ancestry transcribed on the births what was his surname? Jeanette

Well you could possibly trace him if you know his birth date - by checking the full bmd index for the right date and area and surname (hopefully it isnt Smith?). If Glory be, he was born 1911 onwards you would also have mums maiden name to guide you.

Hi, could very well be was named for his father - instead of calling him jr or '....' jr they called him Sonny. Parents are great for 'nicknames' that stick - my grandfather always called his only son 'little buddy' to this day my entire family calls him bud or buddy - and he'll be 72 this year! Sue

could be just remebered that this was grandads younger brother grandad born 1903 so wont be able to trace that one up....thought I would see what might come up on here must have been the favourite then as grandad came from large family so I been told

Not sure that Sonny is a short name for anything in particular. Possibly just a pet way of naming your son!

Hi, my aunt has told me that my grandad had a brother called Sunny/Sony I am assuming this is a nick name she only new this name has any body got any ideas to what this could be short for or could it be because he had the same name as his father I know he had 2 sons so far one which has same name as his dad any ideas!
