I have Polish and possibly German ancestry but have got nowhere so far. I have even made contact on the Internet with possible 'cousins' but as soon as you mention family history a huge barrier goes up. It is as though they want to forget what happened in the past altogether. What exactly is it that you are trying to find? There is little to search on the internet and you really need to have some good base information to start from.

All these are listed in a book about genealogy on the web:- www.rootsweb.com/~wggerman (Germany GenWeb Project) http://home.bauwe.de/~hanacek/info/edatbase.htm (Internet Sources of German Genealogy) www.genealogienetz.de (German Genealogy) www.shoal.net.au/7%eberry/genealogy/german.html (Niall's German Genealogy Resources) www.germanroots.com (German Roots) The only one I have looked at was the third one, as it also covers Austria. I somehow found my way on to an English message board much like this one, so I would imagine you could get good advice from there. I hope so because my wife is half Austrian so I will be giving it a go myself. Good luck Duncan
