Hi everyone, How do track the research that you have done showing bmd and census? I could do with a simple method so that I do not go over old ground. Thanks Gail

I put the person's name at the top of a sheet of A4 and then add what I know about them, or think I know. I record where I have looked, even if it was NOT successful e.g1851xxxx with parents 1861 not in xxxx with parents 1871 in yyyy - recorded as Mrs John Smith Marr to John Smith not found (FreeBMD 1861-71 all counties) Dec qtr 1871 birth of son Fred Smith in yyy reg dist (GRO index) Jay

I use FTM2005 software. There is space to add general notes, medical notes, cause of death , occupations, where they were at different census as well as birth, marriage and death details etc. Also photos and other images in the scrapbook section. If I can't afford to buy certificates of some more distant relatives, I add the reference for them in the notes for that person just in case I want to buy it in the future. Well worth the money. I use a spreadsheet. Names down left hand side. Columns giving dob/ date of marriage, date of death. Parents names /spouse names etc. Then a series of columns with all census dates. I put a X in the census dates where they cannot be and as I find the info I tick the box. That way there are always gaps to search for. All info goes into their notes section in the PAF file as I don't put much info on the tree on this site. Jill
