Is anybody near Brighton?

I am trying to find out if there are any newspaper articles about my great-uncle (by marriage’s) suicide. I have asked the question of the library in Brighton, but, rather naively, I asked them before I had any firm dates (stupid, I know!!), so if I need them to look for anything else it will now cost me £10 an hour. I do now have his death certificate and the details on it are: ARTHUR LAURENCE PALMER, died 29th Sept 1962 at Hove General Hospital from ‘Shock and haemorrhage caused by gunshot wound to the chest – shooting himself with a Luger automatic whilst the balance of his mind was disturbed’. The death certificate was issued by the coroner on 4th October after an inquest held on the 3rd October. I wonder if anyone is at the library whether you might be prepared to have a look at the Argus, Gazette and Herald for me, at editions just after this date. All I am looking for is which edition of the papers, if any, the story appears in – I am then quite happy to pay the library to do a copy and send it to me – I just can’t really afford £10 an hour for them to look. I would be more than happy to reciprocate if anyone needs anything in High Wycombe!! Many thanks Looby

Hi LL I can not help you with the library look-up because I have just moved away from the area. I have always found the 'Argus' very helpful - have you tried contacting them direct? It would have been the 'Evening Argus' in that era, the same newspaper, just a change of name. Jo

Hi Jo I have tried the Argus, but the archives they keep themselves don't go that far back - they referred me to the library. thanks anyway Looby
