I have got to the stage in my tree that everyone I am looking for was born around 1820 and before. Where do I look for the info on them? Please don't just say Church Records 'cos I don't have a clue how to find them!

Sorry but you already know the answer, church records aka Parish Records! Some can be found on the IGI at www.familysearch.org and some can be foun d on Ancestry. You may find some by googling the place you need. You can buy CD's with them on for some areas. Other than that, the records will be held on microfilm or microfiche at the County Records Office of the relevant area. Sam x

Hi Blossom You need to look at the parish records for the area that your relatives were living in...you will find these in the record office for that area. But there are some parish records available on CD which you can buy, there are also some (not many) parishes which have been partly transcribed and are available online... Have you tried www.familysearch.org ? have a look at the IGI on there.

Are the records of the Individual area's all sent to London. I am living near london and all the family are from Yorkshire. Will they be available at the Archives down here too? Thanks.

Not sure about 'normal' records offices and suchlike but if you have a Family History Centre run by the LDS near you, then I believe you can order film in (they charge about £2.50 per film) and they will keep it for about a month to give yo chance to look up what you need. If you go to there website www.familysearch.org then you can find a list of where their centres are located. Sam x

Each archives/record office hold the records for their own area. If you can't attend in person it might be worth considering joining the Family History Society for the area or the county you need, they can often supply parish registers on fiche or possibly CD.
