I believe that if you have a genuine reason to access the records of a person within the last 100 years, you can apply to do so, giving appropriate reason. I also believe (don't know where I have got it from) that for the 1911 census the claim requirement is less onerous that for other info. But at the end of the day, we have to remember that lots of people are still alive at age 100, and we have to respect their privacy, |

By all means sign the petition if you want but it is unlikely to have any effect. There is no appetite in Parliament to change the disclosure periods. |

Not me, I'm afraid. Every 1911 schedule starts with the words: 'The contents of the Schedule will be treated as confidential. Strict care will be taken that no information is disclosed with regard to individual persons.' That was an open ended undertaking, and there are people still living who appear there. I do support the 100 year status quo as providing a sensible balance between personal privacy and the wider historical interest such material generates. |
