Have you found his death reference? What year are we talking about? Im afraid it wont give his wifes name unless she was the informant on the certificate and then not her maiden name. It will give his place of death but this may not necessarily be his home address. It will give his age at death (as far as the informant is aware of it) and the cause of death. Im afraid it wont tell you where he was born. It should tell you his occupation. If you have your parents birth certificate it will tell you the name of your grandmother. If you get your grandparents marriage cert you would have grans name, where they were living at time of marriage, both their fathers names and occupations. Why dont you give us some details of his name, etc and perhaps we can help you more. |

He may have been born in Poland but do you know where he got married?....Poland or England? If it was likely they married in England, your laughing! Marriage will give you BOTH thier fathers names. If you 1st send for the death cert, that should give you a rough age. Then you can work out when he may have married. Did he have an obvious Polish name? Good luck and dont forget to ask for help here. Gerri. |

Well, does that mean your dad was born in Poland? Is dad deceased or can you ask if he has a birth certificate? I take it the other brother is your uncle - is he or any of his family alive who could help. Its unusual for people not to have any idea at all about their parents names/origins or for them not to have kept any documents. If all you have for reference at the moment is that death certificate and you are sure it is him, then its worth paying £7 for it for any details you may glean. Have a look at the National Archives site - they have a section for immigrants to this country. Also google Polish Immigrants to see what comes up. Were they Catholic or Jewish do you know? If so they may have attended a church/synagogue that was near where they lived/died and which may have some records. |

Adraid not. If she did sign as informant then I assume she would be using the anglicised married name so all you may learn is her first name. As I said, ask family members for anything they may have, photo albums, documents, school records, employment info, anything that may help. Google, check out National Archives on line for immigrant info and check out any churches (for instance the one where dad married - which would also give his home address at the time) and anything else which may be helpful. Who are the witnesses on dads marriage cert - are they any help? |
