Is it just me being silly or is searching wales harder than England??? I am trying t ofidn any Moores or Greens around Bedwellty in Wales (im told this is the registring office). but i dont know the twons my family were in - being miners i beleive they moved about a bit in the county. I beleivethat Bedwellty comes under Monmouthshire - but have been told some of my realtives also were born in Bettws-Y-Coed - which appears to be a different county. Anyone got any good tips on searching Welsh ancestors as im hitting a brick wall at present and my tree doesnt seem to link to anyone else for Greens or Moores (dudley/kidderminster/Bedwellty areas) |

Wales is no more difficult to search than england, the only proplam I have found is places being mispelt, Bedwellty or Bedwelty (same place but spelling keeps changing) is in both Glamorganshire and Monmouthshire at various times in history. Bedwellty registration district covers Abertillery; Aberystruth; Ebbw Vale; Rhymney Valley; Rock Bedwelty; Tredegar - but there are many other small towns and villages that are encoumpased. Rob is right that the IGI has relatively little for Wales but considering large amounts of Wales was Methodist and attended small Chaples and Churches which each held their own registers, many of which will now bw in county records offices and even on microfiece in some of the Libraries. If you want my to have a look for a family or 2 on the census to get you going let me know. I grew up about 10 miles for Bedwellty and alot of my ancestors were registered under Bedwellty. |

Are you not looking for specific persons, just anyone with those surnames? You should be working backwards from the facts you know. Who is the person who is the definite Welsh ancestor and what do you know for definite about them? |

Thansk for the messages folks. I am trying to find my GRandparents and their parents - some of them may have been born in the midlands at the Great Grand parent level - but the kids at my Grandparents level were all born down ther. Nan has been giving me the info i have so far - but shes sick these days so cant push her too much for info. Sorry if this is a bit long but its all i have so far - and searching has been driving me made as im not sure what i do wrong but cant see mto make it find anything for Bedwellty! Not eventhe ones i know exist like my grandad. a few details of the Green family side of the tree. Grandad Henry Philip Green born 23-5-1917 registered Bedwellty in Wales (found his birth record) but moved to Kidderminster, married twice - once to Dorothy Ingles (got her birth marriage and death (1946) records all in Kidderminster) He then married Doris May moore - born 19-9-1925 in Bedwellty. doris is my 'nan' now even though she is my dads step mum. doris had a sister Iris who she thinks was born in July 1928 in Bettws-y-coed, Wales, she died aged 39. Another sister Lillian Edna Berry Moore - approx 18 months younger than Iris born in Bettws-y-coed she thinks. - died approx 16 years of ago. She was known as Edna They then had a brother William Christopher Moore born about 1936/37 in bettws-y-coed she thinks. died age 51 on New Years day - about 19 years ago. he was known as bill. he married a woman called Rita Jones and they had a daughter called Lesley who is married but has no kids they dont think. The youngest sibling was Florence June Moore born 27-6-1940 possibly in Bettws-y-coed as well. She is known as June and still alive in Stourbridge now where her family was raised. I have to try and get in touch with her to find her childrens details. Doris May Moores parents are William Joseph Moore born 21-12 but dont know year. He died approx 24 years ago. born in Bedwellty my nan thinks. Her mother was Clara Godwin, born around the same place and was one of 13 children. She died aged 49 she thinks. Some of claras siblings were believed to have been some called Annie (youngest), Polly, Fred, Jim and Edie (possibly Edith). the family moved up from Wales to Kidderminster and Stourbridge (both in Worcestershire) at some ponit when mining work dried off -the family were miners and i have been told they did move about in the lcoal area in Wales to whereever work was. Iris married Fred Salter (not sure if in Worcestershire or still wales) and had three childern David born 1949ish, Frederick (Freddie) b 1950/1951 and Sheila b approx 1958 Edna married Ron Squires and had a son called Paul (he never married or had kids) Ron had been married before but his wife died - they produced a son called Ronald (Ronnie) - he married and had a daughter Grandad Herny Philip Green b 23-5-1917 in Bedwelltry was the second child of 6. First born was William Green - approx 18 months older, he never married. 3rd born was florence, not sure when born but died about 1959/60. She married in Kidderminster to John Curry and they had a daughter Eileen, born in Feb she thinks and 63 or 64 years old now. parents both dead. I beleive that eileen also has a daughter called Cathleen. 4th born was Nell - she married but dont know name of husband and didnt have kids 5th born was Rita, not sure when, she married Frank Dickson in kidderminster - they hada son called John. bot h parents now dead 6th born and youngest was Kenneth - beleived to be dead but no one has heard of him for about 15 years. Henry Philip Green (my grandad) mum was called Lillian (called Lily to family) Moore. not sure what his dads name was. Lillian Moore (grandads mum) was Nans Dads (William Joseph Moores) sister - so nan and grandad were cousins. William was oldest, Lillian the youngest. They also had another brother the middle child - called Harold (Harry) moore. nan beleives her grandad(william and Lillians dad) was called Henry Moore Lillian got preganant before her marriage - so the first child William joseph Green (nans dad) wsa born BEFOre the wedding as she wasnt yet 21 and family would not give permsision for marriage. cofsued ?? I am and thats just typing up the notes i took talking to my nan and auntie! anything anyone can do to help there is greatly appreciated. |

I see what the main problem is, your looking at recents people - they are much harder to find than people before 1901 as census records make things easier. I strongly recommend that you copy the references to word (or similar) and then remove the DoB's of living relatives - for safety. http://ancestry.()co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx You need to look at the BMD index, ancestry has this for free - just register as a guest and search away (Nb. the free BMD index is only partial going up to around 1910 mainly so you'd need to use the complete images) Name: William Christopher Moore Birth Date: 1 Sep 1932 Death Registration Month/Year: Jan 1984 Age at death (estimated): 51 Registration district: Birmingham Inferred County: Warwickshire Volume: 32 Page: 930 Name: William C Moore Mother's Maiden Name: Goodwin Death Registration Quarter/Year: Sept 1932 Registration district: Bedwellty Volume: 11a Page: 214 Name: Doris M Moore Mother's Maiden Name: Goodwin Death Registration Quarter/Year: Dec 1925 Registration district: Bedwellty Volume: 11a Page: 226 Name: Iris Moore Mother's Maiden Name: Goodwin Death Registration Quarter/Year: Dec1928 Registration district: Bedwellty Volume: 11a Page: 194 Name: Lilliam E B Moore Mother's Maiden Name: Goodwin Death Registration Quarter/Year: June 1930 Registration district: Bedwellty Volume: 11a Page: 218 Name: Florence J Moore Mother's Maiden Name: Goodwin Death Registration Quarter/Year: Sept 1940 Registration district: Bedwellty Volume: 11a Page:273 |
