Pasteboard was an early form of cardboard. The word is often used to describe any stiff board of medium thickness but it originally meant boards made by laminating or pasting together a number of sheets of waste paper, probably using a form of flour and water paste. (I've often seen old books where damp has led to the cover board to separate out into its separate sheets again) |

An ancester (circa 1841) is described as being a Pasteboard Maker - can anyone tell me anything about this profession? Many thanks Tina |
