ww2 death cert restricted viewing advice needed

i recently found details of a relation who died in burma ww2 in scottish gro index but viewing is restricted not allowed 65 years later the gro index number has AF (armed forces)after the numbers, has anyone any knowledge of how i could go about gaining access to this cert?

Hey James If its just a service return then it wont be a full cert. In all my searching the in the Edinburgh records i have never seen a full death cert from either of the world wars. All that it will be is number (not sure which number), rank, name, date killed (presumed killed), where killedand wherthere KIA or MIA ect. It will be on one A4 page along with about 15 others. I not really sure that they even gave out death certs in the wars, someone may correct me on that. Hope that helps in some way Mhairi

Hi James He will be remembered on the Commonwealth War Graves website www.cwgc.org the entry will give some details service No etc and, with luck, details of next of kin. Worth a look Jack

Hi If the war death was in the UK then sometimes you can obtain a full certificate. Denis

James There is no great mystery here. Scottish service deaths are indexed on ScotlandsPeople but the image is not available online. That is the case with all Scottish 'Minor Records', war deaths or other. They just haven't got round to it yet. SP are currently considering adding the images, but no decision has been announced yet. You can, however, order a copy of the certificate (although it may be like the one Mhairi described) through ScotlandsPeople. Hope that helps? Denis
