Stephen First thing is don't spend any more on credits, the bmd index can be viewed for free elsewhere. You need to have a plan to let you look for the details you need. Look at what you already know, working backwards from yourself. You need to know some of the more recent details to allow you to work backwards more easily. Don't rush off trying to place family in the census without checking who you are looking for, using the ages and parents names from certs means you can eliminate a lot of 'possibles'. Sit back for a few minutes and look at what information you do have, post any names/dates that might help to put things into place. If you have any certificates look for names of parents, witnesses and informants along with addresses etc, these little details might not seem important at the moment but they can be extremely useful. Do you have gr-grandfather on 1891 census? I would try looking for a marriage for gr-grandfather starting about 2 years before eldest child (of course with my family look for 2 years after too! lol). You have gr-grandmother's first name so can maybe find her maiden name there. Post their names, aprox dob from census & place of birth here and g/r members are a wonderful source of assistance. Sue

Hi, I'm new to all this. Can anyone explain to me, how you source information, on line, about people who do not appear in the 1901 census. I've found my maternal great grandparants but don't have my grt grandmothers maiden name and only some of the children appear on the census. How do I find the children born post 1901 and the marrage cert' for my Grt Grandparants. Any advice would be welcome. I'm going through credits like nobodys business and it's all shooting in the dark. Thanks in anticipation, Steve.
