Janet the first plane to take off from a ship was in 1912. I did Google and it was very interesting and I got what I wanted Thanks Sheila |

Sheila, The first purpose- built aircraft carrier in the world was the Ark Royal and it was built at Blyth Northumberland (converted from another ship being built) and was ready in 1914. My father, then aged 7, was taken to see it, as his brother had worked on it. I think seaplanes with floats were used in those days. I have a photo of it and it was rather strange looking vessel.
