Have you looked at Phillimores Index to Parishes which will show you where all the Parishes are? This book is the 'Bible' of Genealogists/Family Historians and without it you will not get very far in your research. The book is rather expensive at £50 but all good reference libraries will have a copy for you to look at. Janet |

I'm confused. How do you know where he was baptised if he has not been found in the parish records? I have some people born in one place then baptised down the hill in the nearest church.... but in another county. Gwyn |

Have you tried GENUKI? Youll find lists there of parishes and the chapels within a parish. Anne |

One of my ancestors, James Croft, gives his place of birth as Glazebury. He was baptised at Leigh Parish Church. I have not found him on the parish record, but the entry for David Cross (17.2.1792) who I believe is his brother, gives residence as Atherton. Atherton is some distance from Glazebury. Is there any way to find out if at that time Glazebury would have been listed as part of Atherton? Many Thanks Elaine |
