I am researching a surname which until more recently was almost always found only in the counties of southern England.
Most of the men were ag. labs. or had worked linked with the sea.

In 1780, .... completely out of area ...a William BELCHAMBER married Ann SHARLAND in Exeter, Devon.

..In 1784, an Ann Elizabeth was baptised in Chichester, Sussex with parents William and Ann.

With same parents' names a William was baptised there in 1785 and another William in 1787.

I have not found the marriage of a William to Ann in the area, prior to these baptisms.

William who married Ann Sharland is the right age to be the brother of my 3 x great grandfather James ( who had a brother William baptised in Sussex in February 1756).... but was it the same man???

Any ideas please on how to discover whether someone married 1780 could be a relative?
