John May died at sea on his way back to England.

One of my great uncles died at sea on the way back to England in the 40's or 50's. How does one look-up people who are buried at sea. Thanks May |

You'd need to check the marine deaths register. This is online at www.findmypast*com and also www.familyrelatives.org (the first of these is pay per view, the second site has no charge for these records). I had a quick look for you and found these on familyrelatives: John May, age: 10, ship: Harpagus, year: 1941, page: 206 John May, age: 37, ship: HMS Duke of York, year: 1945, page 487A John H May, age: 36, ship: C??taur, year: 1958, page: 49 These were the only John May's listed between 1940 and 1960. If any of them look likely, you can order the cert from the GRO (overseas section). Cheers Richard |
