Hi Suzanne, Read your thread and wanted to send you my support. I've not actually been hasseled in the same way as you but I have received several members asking to view my tree BEFORE any other contact has been made. I usually ignor there response through experience, because once you've responded to their request they know you are a fully paid member and send a 2nd request, as you've been getting. But without responding to such requests in the first place I've never had a 2nd request. Like you I don't mind sharing my tree but I will only do it if I'm convinced they are or could be connected. There are just so many people who just like collecting names, even if it is anyones family. Only this week I saw someone on another site who claimes to have - wait for it - 35000 names in their tree. I know it could be one nought too many, but even that is a lot of names. So my advice is - don't respond in the first place. Good Luck and like the others mentioned it's abuse if you've clearly told them no and asked them to stop, so report it. Good Luck, Lou

Hello Suzanne. You CAN block emails.... if they are private but not sure about the emails via GR ?? you should contact GR and insist they block the emails! To find another members ID number, Do as Reggie say's... or...I place my cursor over their name (the underlined blue name) don't click, just hover. We can't do it to our own name, its not 'linked' Look down to the bottom left of your screen... just above the Start button, there will be some writing... Shortcut to genesreunited etc... etc.... the numbers at the end are that members ID. If you don't see any writing... click View ... enable/tick Status Bar. Refresh. If you've recently upgraded to Internet Explorer7.... you might not see the numbers. Don't know if it's like this for everyone!.. it was for me. One reason why I uninstalled IE7. Suzanne, if your feeling intimidated by another member's contact with you, especially after you've asked them to stop, contact GR. Babz

If you can find the person on the search facility on the site (at the top of the board), click on 'send message' beside his/her name The member number comes up above the message box. Reg

I tried ignoring but that didn't work so thats when i asked them to leave me alone. I've had 2 emails but we'll see if thats the end of it. They have allowe me access to theirsand thats how I can tell its not even close, its just the surname they are hunting. I have noticed there is a contact us link under these reply boxes so I know where to go anyway. Thanks.

Suzanne, How may times have they contacted you after you've told them to stop? Warn them to stop spamming you otherwise you'll be forced to contact the abuse department. Rose

Hi Suzanne, I have a feeling there is a way to do it but not at all sure how. What I would do is get in touch with GR. If you go to FAQ then scroll down to contact the support team I am sure they will help you. It is your tree and you have every right not to open it if you don't want. There are people that just collect names but I suppose that is their choice. If they were so interested they would tell you who it is they are interested in then you could take it from there. I wouldn't let it worry you. Just ignore them they may get fed up and go away. Sorry couldn't be more help maybe someone else knows better. Germaine x

Having trouble with a member hassling me to open my tree which I do not wish to do, I have looked at their website they wish to build but there is NO family history on there and I feel they just want to take my info. I'm all for sharing (my tree is shared with over 50 poeple atm) but I'd like to know the person is related even if its 7th cousin once removed! (And this member is not even in the same country as my ancestors) I've asked this person to stop asking me as I'm not opening the tree and got a snotty reply about why have a tree then. Surely it is up to me to say yes or no?! Its my tree afterall. I don't suppose there is a way to block their emails?
