Hi, i am hearing all about these memory sticks, and they seem to be very handy to have,so i am thinking of getting one, but i don't know what size to get! is a GB bigger than a MB?? i want to put my tree onto one and photo's, but then i may want to put other things on!! Chris.

1 byte = 8 bits 1 kilobyte (kb) = 1,024 bytes 1 megabyte (mb) = 1,024 kb = 1,048,576 bytes 1 gigabyte (gb) = 1,024 mb = 1,048,576 kb = 1,073,741,824 bytes The numbers appear to be odd figures because they are based on the binary system. The word bit is derived from 'binary term', a storage unit capable of holding a single character (in other words it is either 'off' or 'on'). Often, the numbers are (incorrectly) rounded to a thousand etc.

My 300 name tree downloaded as a Gedcom file size 220Kb. A typical memory stick of 256Mb costs about £5. So you could save 100 similar trees on that memory. Of course a 512 Mb stick for £10 would be better for backing-up for your photo imagews too. David

If you are being charged more than £15 max for a 1gb stick then you are being ripped off
