I'm trying to find the marriage details btw Alfred Scott and Amelia (maiden name unknown). I think that I've managed to cut it down to 5 possibles from Alfred's name and the area that they were possibly married in. I want to cross reference with Amelia but since I don't know her maiden name, I'm finding it really difficult. Anyone got any tips for me please? |

What timeframe and place are we talking about? Free BMD has 4 marriages between Alfred Scott & Amelia. 1882 Bethal Green 1886 Blackburn 1897 Pancras 1907 Wharfedale |

oh my Thank you so much But where did you find that? I'm still new and shiny to all this so even simple info can be a bit of a challenge! Is there any way to cross reference that with amelia eventhough I don't have her maiden name?? I'm pretty sure that the Bethnal Green one is the correct one |

The Bethnal Green one was in the March quarter of 1882 (Vol. 1c Page 328) her name was Amelia Penn. To use Free BMD, just google freebmd, it's the first one that comes up. Click on search. Next page I clicked on marriages, the first and last name of the groom and first name of bride. Four results came up. Once you have the volume and page number you can order the marriage certificate at a cost of 7 pounds. Good luck, Margaret |

Kelly, what can you tell me about your Alfred & Amelia Scott? Are they the ones on the 1891 census, living in Whitechapel, London with 2 daughters Mary Ann 8 and Emily 4 and a son William 2months? Margaret |

FreeBMD is always a good place to start as it will search several years at once and show you the relevant results, where as with Ancestry you have to give one particular year and then look through all four quarters individually yourself. FreeBMD doesn't have everything yet, but it's always worth checking there first. It can save a lot of time!! I think there are few threads on here for newbies with tips, info and good websites etc. Just type in 'newbies' to do a search and it will show you them all. Any questions, don't be afraid to ask. We were all new once and we have to start somewhere. Good luck with your research. |

As you are brand new and shiny - get an ancestry sub - it will give you the best £70 worth of info in this hobby. All the censuses available 1841-1901 plus the bmd index and lots and lots of other stuff for a whole year 24/7. You cant do without it. My other tip is Google. Search on google for everything and everyone. |
