Get that ancestry sub - about £70 a year for full 24/7 usage - I dont know how anyone could research without it. And GOOGLE - use a google search for finding anything and anybody. Google occuptions, place names, street names - anything you want info on - its all out there somewhere.

Julie, to find marriages, births and deaths first of all try using the freebmd site - its is free as the name suggests but not complete yet (volunteers have been working on it for years, bless them). It is name searchable which is brilliant. Failing that you have to go to ancestry (I take it you have ancestry - if not then you should definitely get a sub it works up much cheaper than buying units and you get full 24/7 usage for every census avaiable 1841-1901 plus lots and lots of other stuff) and look at the bmd index on there - the full one. Unfortunately it is not name searchable in the same way as freebmd and you have to narrow down the range of time then search through each image for each quarter of a year looking for a marriage for one of the names and then do it all again to see if you get a match with your second name (hard work Im afraid). Thirdly, another pay to view site is familyrelatives.org - on that you have the bmd index as on ancestry - dont use that as its free on ancestry - but if your bmd falls within the period 1866-1920 then again on this site you can search by name and just click for the matching names - you can narrow down to a period of time and place aswell. If, like me you have some unusual names, you can have a scam where you enter just the surname and bring up every birth, death and marriage for the whole 1866-1920 period for the whole country - very useful, but only if you do have a rare surname to search. To buy the cert on line for £7 use the reference above and go to GRO online and complete the details - you will have to enter your card details and address for them to send it to you. https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp Make sure you ONLY use this site for buying certs as other con sites charge up to £25. You use the year, area, quarter, volume and page given above inthat freebmd ref.

These are your great grandparents? Do you have your grandfathers birth certificate? That would be the way to find out his parents names and then work backwards. When was grandad born? This looks like them possibly? Marriages Jun 1894 Berwick Sarah Shoreditch 1c 122 Chapman Henry John Shoreditch 1c 122
