It has happened to me - I can't even find any records of my own marriage and I know it happened, I was there at the time and have the certificate and husband to prove it!

Hi Lynn Looking at the information you posted, the Witness to the marriage, Thomas Beatty is most likely to be Eugene's brother as his father's name (Michael Beatty) is stated on the marriage certificate. The other Witness, Mary Staines could be Margaret Staines's mother or sister. Try posting the information you already have regarding the marriage on the 'Trying to Find' boards...under both surnames of Beatty and Staines. Remember, not everybody that uses GR has their full tree posted on here but by posting on the Trying to Find Boards I think you will have more chance of somebody picking up you names/details0 and perhaps you might find a connection. I have searched the familysearch.org/ website and there are over 200 entries on there for Beatty/Beattie listed for Co. Dublin. Nothing in your era's though, but quite a few families children in 1860's & 1870's. Only 18 records for Staines. You could apply to the Dublin Records Office for Eugene's full birth certificate as you do have his father's name and as he was of full age at the time of his marriage in June 1917, he would have been born c.1896. No guarentee that he was born in Co Dublin but if it was me I would go for it. I was in the same position as you...I had obtained my grandparent' marriage certificate (married in Dublin City) and they were both of full age. I then sent off for their Birth certificates with a letter explaining that I didn't know the exact year of birth but I believed they were born in Co. Dublin and could they please do a 10 year search for me and I will pay the extra if they can't find it within 4 years of the given date, eg.,1897. They eventually came back to me, but it did take a while, over 2 months. Then I had their mother's names. Armed with that extra information I was all set to find the rest of the families, which I have done by posting messages and finding contacts, who in turn gave me other information that I was able to follow up. I'm now going back further generations and I have now found both families ancestors on the familysearch.org website. Don't forget to ask other family member's if they are in contact with other relatives on the Irish side of your family. Somebody else might just be in contact with a cousin, aunt or uncle who's parent's are from your Irish line. You just have to keep on trying everything possible...you will get there, but it's a slow slog. I've been tracing my Irish side of the family for 2 years now yet I traced most of my English side within a few months, so don't be put off...keep going. I will 'nudge' my thread 'Irish GRO's...for those who don't know' for you. Good luck......Teresa

Hi Deborah I agree with Chris. They say that we all learn something new every day. It was just so kind of him to tell me in such a nice way and explain why thank you Chris. Irish records are an absolute nightmare I have been looking for mine for a a long time now and I thought that once I'd got the certificate things would start to get a little easier. But no I still cannot find these families anywhere I've got marriage certificate my grandparents and my father's birth certificate. All I get on all of my searchers are sorry no matches found it is driving me mad I feel like I am on a Merry Go round not very merry though just dizzy around and around anyway sweetie good luck with your research. Take care Lynne.

Hi Lynne I would agree with Chris. Also you may find your having problems tracing your family as they are from Ireland. I'm afraid very little exists ONLINE regarding tracing our Irish ancestors. There certainly isn't the amount of info available as there is for our English, Welsh & Scottish ancestors sadly. I believe there is soon to be the 1911 Dublin Census to be put online - when though i do not know , but this would at least help you find those your looking for on the above marriage certificate :) All the very best Deborah

Hello everybody hope you are all having a good week end. As you all probably no I have been researching my dad's side for a long time and getting nowhere. I cannot seem to find these families anywhere even the people that I have got certificate for I cannot find them. Anyway I just thought it was me not researching at the sites properly. My friend came over today who it is very good and computers and family research but she couldn't find anything. I was just wondering has this ever happened to anybody or any ideas how to get around this. Thanks a lot you guys Take care Lynne. P.S I'm getting a little confused here when I post a message some people tell me to put it on all the boards. But it seems that this annoys others. so apologies in advance I'm going to post it on all three
