Best tip for newbies - Google search

If you want to find anything at all, from a name to a place, to photos of a pub, a street, a village church - do try a google search - its incredibly fruitful and you may even find someone out there has a full tree that includes your ancestors. Google, google, google everything and anything.

And when you have 'Googled' don't forget to click the image search option...........Sometimes clicking on an image (if you are lucky enough to have some) will lead you to an interesting site that would have been 30 pages down the original search page :) Chris

I googled an address of an ancestors street address and found a picture of their house! Lovely.

When I first started my researching I would google everything - its amazing what comes up in a vague search. I even found a complete tree matching mine and contacted a distant cousin.

This is one of the best tips. Have been trying to find my GG Grandmother for ages but now realise had some wrong info. Googled her name and it came up in an article for Pottery workers in Stafford. Not only her name but the extract was from the 1881 census showing her whole family. Put me on the right track after all these months. Great Tip Lesley - Melbourne Australia

I was looking for the death of a boring old ag lab. Couldn't find it locally and it was annoying me. Googled his name - he was left a fortune by an unmarried uncle and inherited vast estates in the Turks and Caicos Islands - there is a whole museum out there devoted almost entirely to my humble ag lab! My search for his death would NEVER have extended to the Turks and Caicos Islands! OC
