Yesterday I emailed Chelse & Kensington Registry Office and asked them to check their original entry against a birth (1842) certificate which I got from the GRO (I was wondering whether there had been a mis transcription as the mother's former name was unexpected). I had a reply within twelve hours (I am in New Zealand) which was actually sent within an hour of their opening. (Unfortunately) theuy confirmed what I had, but you can't get much better service than that. Peter |
