Search the marriage index for possible matches for the first marriage, this will allow you to cross reference the marriage to get the name of the bride then you can look for possible children of the marriage. Post 1911 birth index entries will have the mothers maiden name which will help to eliminate some names. I'm guessing the 1933 and 1935 you quote are the years of birth? If that is the case then the marriage can be no earlier than 1951 (1935 + 16 years=1951). This narrows down your search years to a manageable level. From your original post am i right in thinking that he is your birth father? There MAY be some details in your adoption file although names of possible siblings and name of his fist wife may not be given there may be some clues. My file told me that i had three half siblings through my mother and six through my father, not strictly correct as my father was a bit of a 'ladies man' shall we say. The true total number is 12 but it gave me an idea of gender and age for the nine who were mentioned althopugh no names were given. Glen |

Hi Margi Just re-read your original post. The first marriage (if it ever happened based on the case with my b/f) would be between 1949 and 1958 not from 1951 onwards as i originally said. Trawling for a marriage and subsequent possible children is your first step. Based on the name i knew my father used for most of his life (he reverted to his mothers maiden name in his final years) i found several children born in the fifteen years before i arrived. As for the fact that you are here now but no one can find your details that is quite common. I kept being told my details were destroyed by fire or a WW2 bombing raid. It must have been an unexploded bomn though, i was born in the mid 60's!! Eventually i asked the social services in the town i was born in to look, within a week they had located the documents and sent them to my local office. Shame it took a year to find the person who really knew what to do though. Glen |
