Names and dates missing

When I enter a new relative on my family tree it is required that I put in a birth date and place of birth or it is not accepted, but when I look at 'my tree matches' there are frequently names without date or place of birth. Does anyone know how names are entered without this information added? Thanks, Janet

Have found the same problem, Janet. Perhaps the incomplete ones have been entered via a gedcom, rather than manually? (Like the name, by the way!!) Jay

I'm not certain (because I haven't done it), but I think if you upload a gedcom from other family history software, then it will be accepted without place and date of birth. Kath. x

Thank you for the replies. I haven't uploaded anything so I'm not aware of how that happens.....I barely know how to download...but I'm working on it! Janet

Yes, if you import an existing tree, the date and place fields can indeed be blank. Which is just as well, because we frequently don't know either.

If you dont know the exact places/dob - just enter something vague like UK for place and a circa year for the birth. AND DO GET a better family tree program on your computer!
