I have found that a Gt. Uncle of mine was born with the name of Todd and moved to Hull in 1880. He fought in the Boer War and First World War and eventually came to London where a lot of his family were living but had changed his name to Walton. He even married with the name of Walton. However rumour has it that he changed his name because he killed someone (an accident I am told) whilst in the Hull area. Is there any way in which I can found out if this is true. I have no idea who to contact first. Carol

Carol - any idea roughly what year he changed his name or when he came to London? I have access to the Times Newspapers online and could do some searches for you but would need a rough idea of timespan to search. Also, do you know if he was ever tried for this incident (and maybe changed his name after serving a sentence) or did he perhaps change his name to avoid capture? Just wondering because if he remained unknown then his name wouldn't appear in the newspaper articles. Whereas if he was tried in court, then I can search on his surname. Athena
