Allan Sorry, but you won't get a marriage cert! (Pre registration)You will have to look at the original parish registers to see the marriage. OC

sorry for delay...aol playing up....yes ...you`re right-i was wrong...that was margarets BABTISM date....so she could have been 3-4 when she was babtised,,...seems more likely....so although i think i may have found margaret,i`ll have to check on marriage certificate if its the same margaret(parents john and ann griffiths) on marriage certificate....if it is,and some of margarets children went to liverpool with her,,this could open up my tree for a lot of oakes`s in liverpool being related....worth the £7.00....thanks again...if anyone has any thoughts,i`ll gladly take them aboard....regards..allan

Hi the legal age for marriage was 12 for girls and 14 for boys until 1929 when the marriage act came in.

just been on csc site again...found a margaret griffiths b 2/10/1764 in neston,chesh....this would make margaret 15 yrs 8 mnths on her wedding day....is this feesible in 1779??...regards...allan

hi ...help needed if possible... i have margaret griffiths b 1760 she married william oakes b 1758....they married in st oswalds church,backford,cheshire,(5 miles outside chester).on 12-10-1779.....they had 7 children all born in backford.....margaret oakes(griffiths) died in liverpool in 1834 aged 74 yrs.was she originally from liverpool)...she was then buried in st oswalds ,backford on 1-10-1834....i`ve checked www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb no sign of margarets birth,but this site doesn`t cover all areas.....any tips/a]ideas?...regards...allan
