how to search for a death that happened in 2006. BMD only go up to 2004. A friend has just told me that she thinks another friend (who I haven't been in touch with lately) has lost their father. I would rather like to check before phoning with condolences. Aby help would be gratefully received. Trouble is I am in Japan so a bit difficult to go and check.

Diane Have you thought about checking the local newspaper for on-line obituaries, quite a few papers have that facility now. Susan

Hi Diane I have found a death in 1995 for a Mr. Gunesekera in Surrey. I am sure there was a site where you could get records after 2004...I will keep looking for you. Regards Ann

Pre 2004 records are 'deposited' and available via the bmd index, post 2004 events are not yet deposited and cannot be traced via the index. For events post 2004 the index is held by the local registrar and as yet are not available to view, queries/searches of the index have to be conducted by the local registrar.

Thanks for the info Glen. I guess the only way to find things after 2004 then is to search the local papers. Regards Ann

Hi again Diane I had a look at the Surrey Times online but there is no death in the family notices there. (tried all London search too) I think the easiest way is for you to just ring your friend say hello....and take it from there. If she tells you that her father has died, then you can pass on your condolences. Good Luck Ann
