Tanks for all your advice,. I went to the Norfolk Office on Wednesday. They were extremely helpful. They did not seem to close for lunch. I left just after 2.00pm. I only found one relative, but that was the one that had been bugging me, so I felt it was well wotrth the visit. PS Centre Parcs is nearer to 30 miles than 20. Regards david

If you are going to centreparcs you will be away a 20 mile drive away - avoid rush hours, the roads will be choc a bloc at those times.

Thanks Heather We hope to go there next week sometime. My daughters have booked us in to centreparkls with them and are expecting us to have an active holiday. I was hoping to take my laptop which has most of my information on, but it is away being repaired at present and won't be back in time.

The Norfolk office is new and beautiful. You can look at their website - the office is next to the County Hall and there is plenty of parking - you have to get a ticket off the attendant when you get there. When you go in you put your excess bits into a locker, so youll need some change for that. Theres also a refreshment room to sit and have a can of coke or coffee - all from vending machines (more change!) I understand you can actually have a proper lunch in the Council building restaurant next door. You will need to take your essential stuff, glasses, pencils, notebooks etc in a see through bag into the records rooms. It is user friendly, you sign in on your way in. If you want to order down something from the records, you go to one end of the office (all clearly marked) and give them a note of what document/s you want to see. (Look on the website first to see what you may want to order). A board is put up saying when your docs have arrived, so you just go down and collect them. The other end is where all the ref books, fiche and films are. The archivists on duty will explain exactly where to look for stuff and help you with the fiche/film machines.

Shame the birth is 1805 and not later as you would have found this site useful: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb(.)com/~tinstaafl/ Remove brackets from web address. Cheers, Horatia

Thanks Heather I'm just hoping that I will be able to get away from my two daughters long enough to do some research.
