Evidence is pointing to the fact that my 2xgrt grandmother was illigitimate, that is not a problem to me, but I would like to get her birth cert but cannot find it.....A fresh pair of eyes would be very welcome to see if they can locate it for me....... The chances of her birth being registered are slim..........it wasn't compulsory until 1875. She was listed as being 10yrs old on 1851 census. Reg

The 1851 is difficult to read but i think it is margaret delay W 40 visitor general servant elizabeth delay 10 ditto

Athena beat me to posting that possible birth. Are you certain her mother's name was DELAY at the time of Elizabeth's birth. In 1851 Margaret describes herself a as a widow, so she is either masquerading as a widow or she may have married after Elizabeth's birth and Elizabth took the husband's name. By the way, Margaret was a vistor in the MOUNTAIN household in 1851, not sister as indexed. Jennifer

Jim, yes it does say Visitor - not sister as it's been mistranscribed. Just been trying to find Margaret Delay on the 1841 but nothing yet ...

There is a family of this name using St Georges church Margaret Deeley was baptised 1836 to William & Elizabeth Mary Ann Deiley was baptised 1839 to the same couple There's a fair chance Margaret was a sister of George?

They are stating the St George in the East 1837-1848 are 'coming next'. Costs £2.95 to get the full results but they do list basic names held on their searches for free.
