Does the mother's name on the birth cert just say ''Sarah Butcher'', or does it say ''Sarah Archer formerly Butcher''? If the former of these, then that would imply that the parents were not married at the time of the child's birth. Richard |

To save anyone else looking, the Sarah Elizabeth Butcher marrying in Lambeth Jun 1859 1d 626 does not have a corresponding entry for a William Archer on the images. |

Hello, Are you certain of the names? And do either of them have a middle name? Just had a quick look on freebmd and no matches for an archer marrying a butcher in the whole country - checked 1855-1863 - but it is not completely transcribed... It looks like you may have to trawl through the complete images on Ancestry and see if you can spot them. If you know they were married in 1861 I would work backwards from there... Have you got the birth certificate of the child born 1863? If so, how are the names recorded on that? Good luck :o) Cheryl |

All bmd's are free on Ancestry..just register with the site. You'll have to buy the cert to find the actual date.... Good luck Reg ps...I presume you've already checked freebmd............and the IGI |
