I've recently discovered I have Irish ancestors. Martin Toole b 1791. On the 1841 census just says Ireland. He married Bethsheba Walls who came from Benington Hertfordshire in 1826 in Stepney. If I get the entry for the marriage from the parish register, will it tell me what part of Ireland he came from? Regards Joan

It would be highly unlikely Joan. It would be more likely to tell you where he was living at the time of the marriage ie. the parish he was living in Some parish clerks did keep very detailed records, but they are as rare as rocking horse you-know-what! lol Jeanette x

I don't think so Joan - I think it will probably only tell you his parish of residence at the time of the marriage. Are there any clues in later census years? Jay

when I was in the Dublin records office a few years ago I was told that if they were married in a Roman Catholic church in this country that the parish priest was very likely to record the details of the parish and townland that they came from, I haven't checked myself as mine very kindly included their county on the census which enabled me to find the townlands via Griffiths valuation. An email to the church in question my help. good luck Jane
