when did my dad get married

Hi can anyone tell me how i can find out when my dad was married and who to have been trying for ages with no success |

i was told he was married before he met my mum dont know where or when but as you say he might not have been married all relatives i could ask have died all i have is his date of birth and where he was born |

If your parents married you could get their marriage certificate and see what your dad's condition is on that. If he was previously married it should say Devorced or Widowed other wise it will say Batchular. But this still cannot be gurenteed as I have an ancester who married teice and said he was a batchular on both certificates. You could also trail through the marriage index images from the time your dad was old enough to marry (14 until about 1930's) until he married your mother / you were born. |

thanks lunar i have been looking through the mariage index but with no sucess my dad was never married to my mum so it makes it harder in 1918 could they marry younger than 16 as it is now |

Hi Mary, Until 1927 the legal age for marriage was 14 for boys and 12 for girls, believe it or not. It was highly unusual though. Liz |
