Hi anyone, Can I send my Gedcom file to a Mac user as it is, or do I have to send in a Mac format. How do I do that if I have to. Any input appreciated as i'm not fully conversant with these gedcom things. Cheers Margaret.

Hi Margaret, I have not done it, but as Gedcom is a universal format, as far as I know you should be safe to send it as is. The FT programme on the Mac will convert to whatever format needed.

Thanks Keith, It's for a long lost cousin in Canada, so i'll send it and see then, nothing lost in trying. They just seemed to think it may need a Mac format or whatever. Maybe they don't understand Gedcom either. Cheers and thanks a bunch. Margaret.

Hi again Anyone, Sent my Gedcom file, but mailscanner did not deliver, said it had a virus attachment and that I should rename the file to overcome this. Son and heir says the same thing will happen again as the Mac is not accepting it. Any ideas please. Cheers Margaret.

A GEDCOM file is just a plain text file, so if mail scanning software is detecting a virus, then maybe the file IS infected with a virus. Have you scanned it with your own antivirus software?

My anti-virus is all up-to-date, did a scan this afternoon, so i'm puzzled. Cheers and thanks. Margaret. Just scanned again, no probs. Have sent it before but not to a Mac user, so this has to be the difficulty. Margaret.

Hi Margaret, as Clive said, it is only a plain text file so should get through, can you rename it something dot doc or what ever, if that gets there, they will have to rename it something dot ged.

Thanks Keith and Clive, Have just renamed it and sent again, I do have back-up files anyway, in case I mess up. It's great to be able to ask and get info. Cheers, off for a glass or two now. Have one on me. Margaret.
