I am new at genealogy and I don't quite know what to do next. I know the names of my Great grandfather (Thomas Walton) and Great grandmother (Sarah Johnson). I also know they got married in 1909 in Tamworth, Staffs. However, from there I am stuck. I have no idea where either were born, or when. What should I do next? I am on limited funds, so I can't really afford ancestry.com Graham |

Thomas Walton Year of Registration: 1909 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun District: Tamworth County: Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire Volume: 6b Page: 769 (click to see others on page) its best to order marraige cert which will give age and hopefully thier fathers name then you should be able to find them on the census it costs £7 to order cert and click yes saying got GRO ref (page and vol number) http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp People on here can search for you on the census once you have thier fathers names |

The only problem you have is if on the marriage cert the fathers deceased then you have to see what both the groom and fathers occupations were and hopefully go back on a earlier census. Also don't take all the information on the certificates as gospel !!!! as a few of my rellies have added things to suit themselves lol and not everything has been true which can send you on a right wild goose chase grrrr rellies lol. |

Thanks to all of you for your replies. Before I order the cert, is there anywhere online that I can view marriage certificates? If not, I'll buy one. Thanks again. |
