I am not sure if I have put this on the right board. Gr have sent me an email to say the have downloaded a gedcom file.When I went to open it,it said File does not have a program associated with it Create an association file. How do I do that please Thank you Jean |

You need a family history program that can import the file. Installing one will normally create the file association for you, so that if you install, say, Personal Ancestral File (downloadable free from LDS) and you go to open the GEDCOM, PAF will load up automatically. If you want to see what it looks like, though, you can use any text editing program, such as MS Notepad to open it. It is just a plain text file, organised in a structured way, that enables family history software to construct your genealogy. |
