This may be a long shot but maybe someone can help?! I am tracing Frederick William Dennis (abt 1876) born in Millbrook Cornwall. I can find him on the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census, then nothing after that. A family member believes he emmigrated, possibly to Canda?! I have found an entry for a Frederick Dennis arriving in New York, New York on 27th Feb 1915..... but it states he is married although his wife doesnt appear to be mentioned on the passenger list and I cant find a record of a marriage!! What am i missing?? Please can someone help?? Thanx in advance Sara x |

There are several records for the marriages of a Frederick William Dennis on freebmd..... but which one if any could be yours.? He may have moved far from his birth area. Does the occupation of the emmigrant match your man? Gwyn |

Hi The occupation on the passenger list has him down as a merchant, on the census's the family are down as farmers and general merchants depending in what year you check. |

Sounds like it could be the same man?? Does the ship's record give a name of a relative, either back home or an address to where the traveller was going? .... I found that on a passenger list for one of my relatives. Gwyn |

I'm confused now. Where have you seen him as Frederick William....other than on the passeger list? On the passenger list there is an address for a wife in Streatham. Immediately above this entry is that for another merchant with a wife in the same area. Maybe the men were travelling with their job and returned to UK.? Gwyn |

Sorry I'm back so soon... Can you just confirm for me that the way to check detals on the BMD is that the corresponding District Volume and Page should be the same for the family members concerned- for example when looking at marriages, both husband and wife should be under the same District, Volume and Page? THanks again Sara |

Hi Sarah Yes, for marriages both the husband and wife would have the same District Volume and Page Number. It is sometimes worth checking the images yourself rather than just believing the transcription - I have had some page numbers transcribed wrongly for marriages in my family so dismissed some possible marriages as incorrect! I was a novice then... now I check EVERYTHING!!! Good luck :o) Cheryl |
