I've got the opportunity to visit the SOG later this month. I've never been before and wondered if anyone has any tips they could give me. I'm going to make a list of all the parish registers I need to look at and use the net to see if they are available and where to find them. Apart from that is there anything else I need to know or do? |

Go to their web site and read all the information, it will give you an idea of what you will find there. Try and be organised and make a list of all the things you want to look at,and ask the staff for help if you find things confusing. In one day you will only scratch the surface and you won't want to leave at the end of day. Like most such places, the first visit is a learning curve, so don't expect to do too much. Good luck and enjoy yourself. http://www.sog.org.uk/ |

Janice, If you are within easy travelling distance and can afford a yearly membership. Get one! As Jennifer said you will only scratch the surface in one day. |

Oh dear! I live and work in the North of England so time and distance are against me. However one day is better than none. What happened to the suggestion of a northern family history centre based in Middlesborough? |
