I must stress this is for a friend who hasn't got internet access. Basically, she was told that a relative on her tree (now deceased) was taken into a nuns home around 1912 as she was an orphan. However, what we both find odd is that according to family rumour, the woman had to stay there all her life, and could only go out accompanied...finally dying there aged 70! Im not sure if this is accurate, because if she died aged 70, that would be around 1982, and surely nuns homes wouldn't/couldn't be that strict then? |

Rebekah Oh yes they could! They could do what they liked. To be fair, many homes and hospitals which were run by local authorities also did this. It was only in the very late 1970s and early 80s, that this policy was changed and many extremely institutionalised people were let out for 'care in the community'. The change of policy was of course to do with money, not compassion. Sorry if you find this shocking - I do too. OC |

If you can find the death cert this may give you her home address at time of death. If she lived & died in the home this will show on the cert. Shirley |
