I have finally traced Robert Robertson and his parents and sibling in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census. In 1861 they are in Hamilton Robert is 16 and a plasterer and living with his widowed father Robert and siblings. In 1851 Robert is 6 and living with his Father Robert and Mother Isabella. Which would put his birth date at 1845/44. However I have searched high and low and can not find a Robert Robertson born to a Robert Robertson & Isabella in the Coatbridge/Old Monkland area. To confuse things more in 1841 it states that Robert & Isebla are living with 2 sons but the ages are very wide of the mark. So to find a birth and a marriage is proving difficult. Any suggestions??? Regards, Heather

Ages in the 1841 census where sometimes rounded up. If you where 11 then you became 15 If you where 16 then you became 20 ect That sometimes is the reason for the differences in ages. As for the birth. If your looking on IGI remember that its not complete. Have you tried Scotlandspeople.gov.uk? There is also no garuntee that he was christened when he was born. Sometimes families used to have their children done at the same time. Mhairi

Norah, Robert marries Agnes Brownlie in Adelaide South Australia on 2 Jan 1867. His marriage certificate only states father's name. Which is Robert. On his passenger list to Australia in 1865 it states he is 22 years old which would make him born in 1843. Have looked on Scotlands People and have come up empty. This is a family that doesn't want to be found. I wonder if way back we are related somehow - won't know until I unravel this mess. Regards, Heather
