Very excited to get a hot match with 19 names. Open it to find the SAME name entered 19 times - and it isnt even a name I have in my tree! LOL. OC

I turned off NOT Matches some time ago, and I bear the loss with fortitude ...

next chapter, this afternoon i have received mail from 2 members who tell me they don't think we have a match. i haven't even contacted them so is genes doing the contacting for me now.

Well I have just made six new connections today so it cant be all that bad Carol, some new members don't realise that Hot Matches are automatic and think that it is you initiating the contact, so think it is polite to reply. I had a couple a few months ago and wondered what was going on until the penny dropped.

I am planning an updated tree, which will only contain the names of my three brickwalls, who will be connected to each other by Unknown Unknowns. That way I should only attract contact for the three people on my tree who I so desperately WANT to be hot matched with someone else on this planet. OC

And when you do get a really, really HOT match - they don't respond to your VERY polite email, so become very COLD(hearted) matches. Sob... Jacquie

Krissie Report 30 Dec 2006 20:47

What if other people also have Unknown Unknown's on their tree??

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 30 Dec 2006 20:51

Blimey - then we'd all have thousands of hot matches and get fed up all over again... Jacquie

It wont matter because I do not seem able to spell Unknown Unknown properly, so they will all appear on my tree as Unkown Unjkown, lol. Or maybe I could make up some names? Festinius Polecrafter born 1833 in Ulan Bator shouldnt attract too many matches. OC

Ann Report 30 Dec 2006 21:41

I've done pretty well out of hot matches so I should not complain but It is irritating when its a common name and there is no place of birth listed.

Peter LOL, that is exactly what I did today! Also contacted five very unlikely matchers with a cringing message about clutching at straws and apologising for wasting their time - three have already replied with that bucket of cold water masquerading as a reply 'This is not my relative'. And yes, I WOULD miss having a good old moan about them you're right. OC

Maggie 'O the Mainland Report 30 Dec 2006 22:36

Ah yes it does my heart good to hear the other moans and groans, and I mean that in a nice way cos it make me giggle to see I am not the only one and they say laughter is the best medicine don't they. It would be nice if they could iron out some of the wrinkles for2007. I have some unkowns in my tree and when they turn up on hot matches it really does my head in and YES the automatic returns of THIS IS NOT MY RELATIVE really hack me off too. I'd like to give them ***** relative. It just seems hurtful somehow or am I just too soft. Happy 2007 everyone. Maria

Margaret I must say that that aspect of this site rather startled me when I first joined - so many people looking for LIVING relatives. I had rather expected everyone to be looking for dead relatives, like me! The most recent birth date on my tree is 50 odd years ago and I cannot understand why I get matches for people born in 1980! Be very careful OC, I just got a match with Living Unknown, and I swear that they are not on my tree!! Christine in NZ
