What did a Press Operator do?

I have just got my grandads death cert. and on it, its saying he was a press operator when he died....does any body know what this meant or where i could go to find out what he did. I firstly thought that maybe he worked in newspaper or magazine industry then thought well it could have been that he pressed clothes....

Printing press quite probably

More likely to be engineering. A press bends sheet metal between shaped tools to make all sorts of products and components: think car body panels, appliance cabinets, saucepans, in fact almost anything. I have never heard the expression used in connection with printing. Someone who operates a printing press is a printer.

hubby was a press operator at one time ,worked in an engineering factory working a pressing machine that did metal parts cutouts from sheet metal

Could be either, but my husband works a printing press in a newspaper, if thats any help.

Press Operators when described as such are normally in Engineering. Reg
