Thanks again Reggie, I'll look through and see what I can find. I know my mother would be interested in finding out even the tiniest scrap of information about the baby. |

There is a separate register of stillbirths........I believe it was in use in the 30's.........your mother may be eligible to ask for information from it. I'm not certain of the exact limitations on who can, and who can't, access the records. There are threads on GR about the subject....try putting stillbirth/stillborn in the search box............. Thanks for that Reggie, what a sad thing to have to do. My mother recently told me that her mother had a baby before she was born and he had been buried in the church graveyard, but that is all she knows. I can find no record of a birth or death so I am presuming he was stillborn, and if that is the case I can go no further in my search for him. Thanks again |

No funeral........as such. The body would be interred with another person; just whoever was the undertaker's next 'customer'. My late sister-in-law had a stillborn child in the late 1930's....her husband had to wrap the wee soul and carry her through the streets to the undertaker's premises. Reg |

Does anyone know what would have happened to the baby if a woman gave birth to a stillborn baby at home in the early 1930's? Would it have been taken away by the midwife or doctor (if present) after the birth, is it likely to have had a funeral service? Thanks for your help |
