What is a Removal Order ?

Where would you find the info that told you a Removal Order had been issued?? Kathlyn

I think it was the medieval equivalent of an asbo. Parish relief was normally given to people who were born there or aquired settlement rights for example by marrying a local man or serving an apprenticeship to a local business. Parishes were naturally reluctant to pay poor relief to migrants so they could apply for a removal order back to their parish of origin. The records often survive and can be found in the local record office. They can be quite informative. If it is your relative try googling the name on the access to archives site. Anne

Sure someone will tell me if i am wrong, but i think a Removal Order was when someone was evicted from the parish. check this link for more info http://digiserve.*com/peter/doc/remove.htm remove * Roy

Hi All, In 1801 my 6xgreat grandfather had a removal order for him his wife & Children. They were moved from South leigh to Garford wich are in the Berk's & Oxon's Area .Do's any one know what this means? Thanks Priscilla
