Yes, I noticed that too! I thought that it was a silly thing to do, because I have had a few relatives appear in the 'lost' zone! The handwritten names clearly belong to places higher up on the page, so when they are indexing the images they should really go by the original last name on the page (not the handwritten one) as this would then cover all names. Indexing to the handwritten name misses out a great chunk of people! Not sure I explained that very well, but hope you get what I am trying to say :o) Cheryl |

This is often the result of a missed entry by whoever compiled the indexes. Transcribers now put it in the correct place, which is usually marked with a letter or an *. |

In the births, many pages have a handwritten name at the end of the page, which comes AFTER the last alphabetical listing. The pages are indexed from the first name as far as the HANDWRITTEN one, so in many cases there are names on the page which come AFTER the extra one, meaning the indexing for the page is wrong. If the page you are looking at has the name you are searchibng at the start of the page it's worth looking at the previous page too Peter |
