Hi Tania: Yes, isn't Irish research fun? I've got Sullivans, Stuarts, McCabes, Browns, etc. It's just a little frustrating as I've tried various google searches and there is information about other Wakefields from that part of Galway, but with the exception of one newspaper article about a David Wakefield, I can't find anything about my branch. Thank you for your help. I've tried quite a few sites, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to look through the threads. Best of luck with your Farrell and Anderson searches.

Hi Lisa unfortunately the problem isnt so much living on another planet,as having irish ancestors LOL They are categorically difficult to research no matter where you live. There are a couple of threads about Irish research and where to start on here I will nudge them for you. regards Tania PS I have been driven nuts by my Irish Andersons and Farrells for years.

Looking for Wakefield information. Through the help of a wonderful man and a book written 100 years ago, I've just found information about my ancestors! I'm trying to verify it. A copy of 'Wakefield Memorial' is found on Ancestry. It shows my ancestors. Trying to find out more information about them while they were still in Ireland. Edward Wakefield was born in 1795 in Ireland. His wife was Fanny and they had 8 children. Jane (my ancestor) was born in 1822 and according to her obituary in 1928, she was born in Tuam, Ireland. Ancestry shows immigration records for the family in 1839 (Liverpool to New York). I've found the Wakefields and Jane and her husband, John Ovens, on the 1850 New Jersey Census. I've also found additional information on later census, including records from Toronto, Canada where Jane and John lived after 1852. I'm looking for Edward's parents. IGI records and the Wakefield Memorial state his father was David Wakefield and he was born 'About 1769, Ireland - Wakefield Estate On The Road Between Aughrim And, Ballinasloe, Galway, Ireland.' Wondering if this is true; don't know where to look. Any suggestions most welcomed. I have to leave for work soon, but will check here later. I do wish I was in the same time zone as most GR members. :( Thank you, Lisa

Researching from California when one's family is from Eastern Canada and ancestors are from the UK is such fun. No local information (thank goodness for the internet!!!), no family members, wrong time zone. See continuation below (give me a moment, please).
