If you have your tree on here you can also open it as a gedcom in family tree maker without needing to start afresh. Just find the export tree button on the left follow the instructions and genes will send it to you as an e.mail (a copy not the original) save it to your desk top and you will be able to open it in family tree maker. You can use family tree maker to open several different family tree files. Anne

Hi Lin, If you have loaded FTM onto your computer, depending on what file format the file you have been sent is in (is this the Gedcom you were asking about?) you will be able to open it in FTM. If you go to File/Open then look for the location of the file sent to you, click on it (it will have the suffix .ged), click open, then it will import into family tree maker. Good luck Keith

Hi, Gedcom is a file format, not a programme. You can create and save a Gedcom from the tree programme and import it into GR if you wish. Keith

Not quite...' FTM is a program which will allow you to record your family tree. GEDCOM, on the other hand, is an acronym for GEnealogical Data COMmunication, is a specification for exchanging genealogical data between different genealogical systems. However, FTM will create GEDCOM type files and will also read in GEDCOM files created by other programs.
